PowerLube Running Belt Lubricants

Correctly maintaining and lubricating your running belt is an essential element to maximising the life of your treadmill.

Inadequately lubricated running belts can cause excessive friction between the belt and running platform which can lead to premature wear and failure of the running belt, running platform, drive belt, motor control board and the motor itself.

Excessive friction is one of the main causes of motor and mcb failure. To maintain the required speed, the motor and mcb have to work harder to overcome the friction between the belt and platform, which means they need to draw more current.

Drawing too much current for a prolonged period of time causes the motor and electronics to overheat and fail. Better quality treadmills will often monitor the amount of current being drawn and detect when there is too much current and shutdown the treadmill before any long term damage is done - the technical terms for this effect is "foldback" or "current limit". Cheaper treadmills, do not have this feature and so the current goes unchecked until the treadmill fails, often in a catastrophic manner!

This problem can be avoided by regularly applying silicone oil (also known as "lube"). For treadmills that are in regular use, we recommend you check the lube every month.

The lubes we supply can be used on both domestic and commercial treadmills and contain pure silicone oil which is free from additives.

Silicone oil provides not only the best wear resistance but also helps prevent the build up of static electricity (a by-product of excessive friction) which can give you a the sensation of a tiny, but sharp, electric shock especially when you touch the machine frame.

We recommend you do not use other forms of lubricants such as teflon based products, grease, bicycle chain oil or WD40 for lubricating treadmill belts.

Silicone oil can be supplied as an areosol spray or in a liquid oil form. To order, choose the product gelow that suits you best and call 01386 555630, email jon@northwick.eu or speak to your Engineer - all our lubes are available from the van!

PowerLube Aerosol

Easy to apply

Suitable for most belts

Regular application

Silicone Aerosol spray comes in a convenient can which is applied by simply lifting the running belt and spraying the lube between the underside of the running belt and top of the running platform. Often, this can be done without needing to slacken the running belt.

Re-application tends to be necessary more frequently than with the liquid oil types of lube (see right). Depending upon usage you can expect to re-apply the aerosol every 4 weeks. Aerosol lube can be used on "maintenance-free" running belts.

500ml Aerosol cans £10+VAT each are available from the van or by calling our office on 01386 555630
PowerLube Silicone Oil Kits

 Long Lasting

Excellent wear resistance

Supplied with syringe and tube

Silicone oil kits are available in 250ml or 500ml bottles and come with an applicator kit. The kit consists of a syringe and flexible tube which are used to withdraw the oil from the bottle and then apply it directly onto the surface of the running platform.

The process for applying the oil usually requires the running belt to be slackened off a little and the oil then needs to be "walked-in" for a few minutes afterwards to ensure even coverage.

The main advantage is that each application can last 2-3 months depending upon use. Note that liquid oil lubricants are not suitable for use on "maintenance-free" running belts as found on some Reebok, Proform, Weslo, NordicTrack and Strength Master treadmills.
