Avoid costly repair this winter!

If your fitness machine is kept in a garage, shed, or conservatory then you could be reducing its life due to the effects of cold and damp. Storing or using fitness machines in these environments during the winter months can often lead to the formation of condensation which can cause failures from electrical short-circuits or mechanical problems resulting from rust and corrosion.

Keep Condensation at bay

One of the main causes of failure in the winter is from condensation which forms on electrical components casuing short circuits and corrosion. This tends to happen after a rapid increase in ambient air temperature following a cold snap. One way to minimise the liklehood of this problem is to fit some form of background heating to the room or to position a low wattage, treadmill heater, adjacent to your equipment.

A treadmill heater is a convenient and low cost solution to the problem as it will help keep the immediate area around your machine at a constant
tempertaure so as to prevent the formation of condensation.

Treadmill Heater

These devices simply plug into a standard 13A wall socket. Since they are low wattage, they consume only a small amount of energy which is approximately equivalant that of a conventional electric light bulb. So you can leave the heater switched on an not worry about running up an expensive fuel bill over the winter!

The treadmill heater comes with a mains lead with fitted UK 13A plug, plus mounting legs and a wooden plinth so that you can easily move the heater around.

We recommend that you run a treadmill heater continuously during the winter months from October to March for best results.

Northwick sell treadmill heaters which
are priced at £49+VAT each . These are available to buy from the van or via the office on 01386 555630.

Avoid Fan Heaters

Treadmill Heaters provide constant background heat which gently warms through your machine to keep
moisture away. Using a conventional fan heater or gas heater can bring about increased condensation as they rapdily heat up the air in the room whereas the treadmill itself takes much longer to warm up and the resulting termperature differential actually promotes the formation of condensation especially at the motor and motor control board.

If you currently have a fan heater or gas heater then we recommend you make sure it is switched on several hours before you plug in your fitness machine to allow the treadmill plenty of time to thoroughly
warm-up before you power-up!

Rodents

Mice and other rodents simply can't resist the cosy, draft free and spacious living accommodation which is available
inside your treadmill. They also tend to build nests on the electronics circuits which can have corrosive (and sometimes explosive) consequences!
Needless to say, the damage to internal circuits is often irreversible which, in terms of repair, can result in expensive components being required.

Servicing

Finally, an annual service will ensure your machine is fully lubricated, correctly set-up and thoroughly cleaned and ready-to-roll. Regular maintenance can help maximise the life of your machine by ensuring that the belt systems are running smoothly and efficiently which in turn, reduced the current required to run which prolongs the life of the internal components and saves energy! Northwick offer a standard annual service suitable for all treadmills from just £99+VAT.
