Sub Contract Riveting

The attraction of sub contract riveting seems obvious at first. No need to employ staff. No need to invest in expensive machinery. No need to manage raw material inventory. No industrial relation problems. No health and safety issues. No worries!

It really is no wonder that this option is seriously being considered by manufacturers as they seek ways to manage short term problems such as cash flow and overheads, whilst still responding effectively to fluctuating and unpredicable customer schedules.

Although the obvious benefits may appear to make this a clear cut case, it is worth remembering that it is still your name and reputation on the line if there is a problem with your product and so it is worth taking the time to find a supplier who really knows what they are doing.
This is why Northwick have launched a new sub contract riveting and consultancy service which is aimed at people who have intermittent or low volume riveting requirements or people who just need to be able to "top up" their riveting capacity in order to deal with short term bottlenecks or production "specials".

The service uses Northwick's own riveting machines, the oldest of which is less than two years old. The riveting machines are all to the latest specifications and are fitted with new tooling and state of the art safety systems which allows world class productivity. The service also allows users to connect with Northwick's own riveting experts who can offer advice on product design and optimise tooling and fixtures to suit your product like a hand in a glove!

The service provides the most benefit in cases where there is insufficient volume or regular order schedules to make an outright machine purchase viable.

The most important benefit is that the service enables you to do what may otherwise be not viable and can help ease cash flow by avoiding the need to make an investment in capital equipment up front. So, for example, using the service make it possible to run production through a series of development phases until the product has matured sufficiently to justify a machine purchase.

It also allows you access to the latest machine technology and avoids the learning curve of training operators whilst simultaneously trying to meet production targets.
You can also try out different riveting solutions in a "controlled" manner and see how advanced control technologies such as Watchdawg can be applied to your own application. Therefore, you can objectively assess the benefits and make an informed choice about whether to include such sophistication when it comes to purchasing a machine.

In some cases, it may be necessary for you to invest in tooling. Usually, this is necessary if the tooling required is unique to your product and cannot be used for other applications. If this applies, then you will own the tooling and can transfer it to your own machine as and when the time to purchase a riveting machine arrives.

In summary, the service offers low volume and intermittent users some clear benefits:-

  • Allows product development

  • Protects Cash Flow

  • Optimises design

  • Consistent Quality

  • World class productivity
